MBB: One last ride for Trevon and Forrest

Vandal men's basketball finish out the regular season in the Battle of the Domes against Idaho State for senior day

The Idaho men’s basketball regular season concludes on Saturday and for two student-athletes, senior guard Trevon Allen and graduate transfer forward Quinton Forrest, it signals their last game in Moscow on a senior day. Allen and Forrest joined Idaho men’s basketball at different times, but they will share their senior moments together.

“My last four years at the University of Idaho is something I can remember for the rest of my life,” Allen said. “I met a lot of great people, great friends from great connections and past and present players. They all impacted the way I play and the person I am today and I can thank all of them for doing that for me.”

Allen, from Lapwai, Idaho, joined the Vandals in 2016 and never missed a game throughout his career. Allen put himself into record books with a total of 1,327 points. This placed him 9th on Idaho’s All-Time Scoring List which surprised him.

“I didn’t have any intention of doing that coming in. I knew that I wanted to play ball at the (Divison-1) level, and to be put in with a bunch of legacy level type players is huge,” Allen said. “I can leave my mark here at the University of Idaho in a way for people to remember me.”

Forrest started his collegiate career playing at Bethune-Cookman University before transferring to Jacksonville University his senior season.

Forrest was unable to play for Jacksonville due to injury and NCAA transfer rules. Forrest decided to finish his career as a Vandal with his last year of eligibility. Head Coach Zac Claus recruited Forrest and brought him in as a transfer.

“I was ready to take a chance with him and he was ready to take a chance with me,” Forrest said.

The Vandals haven’t had the season that they hoped for but going into their last two home games and preparations for the Big Sky Championships, they stay confident.

“The biggest thing for us to have a huge impact in the Big Sky tournament is to play almost a perfect game — which is something we’ve done — and we’ve competed with every team in the Big Sky,” Allen said. “We bring that to a higher level, we lock in this week, find a way to get some good wins and roll into the Big Sky tournament. With the fans down there, it’s going to be huge. We’re excited and ready to go.”

Ahead of the final game on Saturday against Idaho State, Forrest gave a message to his teammates and coaches.

“It’s a tough one, because there are so many things I want them to know. But if I had to sum it up, once a Vandal, always a Vandal,’” Forrest said.

With Claus officially becoming the head coach in Allen and Forrest’s last season, he is attempting to bring in new recruits for next season. Allen left some parting words for athletes who haven’t decided to sign yet.

“A good way to get recruits coming in would be coach Claus. I liked having him my senior year, and he’s someone I could go to for a various amount of things,” Allen said. “The biggest thing that people feel when they come to the University of Idaho is the fact that you feel like you’re home. You have people that can support you and have your back.”

Allen and Forrest play their last game in Cowan Spectrum but not without leaving a legacy for current and future Vandals.
