In the spirt of Leslie Knope from “Parks and Recreation”, Vandal Entertainment put on Palentine’s Day yesterday.
Based off episode 16 of season two, Palentine’s Day celebrates the friends in everyone’s lives coordinators said.
In true Knope fashion, Vandal Entertainment staff made waffles for students with cans of whip cream and chocolate or strawberry syrup by their side.
A banner hung in the window with a pink paper cutout of a P over the V in Valentine’s Day. Students waited in line to get a waffle, sat at tables, decorated cards and took pictures with their friends at the photo booth.
The event was set up in the ASUI Student Lounge. During the event, students could take it all in and do as little or as much as they wanted to do.
Saraya Flaig, daytime program coordinator for Vandal Entertainment, said they based Palentine’s Day off of Galentine’s Day from Parks and Recreation.
“Palentine’s Day is more gender neutral and (is) a celebration of your friends,” Flaig said.
The event lasted from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. when they ran out of batter for the waffles Flaig said. But the coordinators hung around for the last half hour so students could finish making their cards.
“From 11 o’clock we had a constant line of people, we ran out of waffle mix early and we probably had over 50 people come through,” Flaig said.
At 7:30 p.m. there was TV trivia, which was “Parks and Recreation” and “The Office” themed.
First place prizes were mini waffle makers, others prizes were sequin pillows themed for both shows and last place prizes were posters of both shows.
Flaig said this is one of the more successful programs they’ve put on so far. She also said this semester as a whole has seen an increase in student participation for their events.
