Faculty Senate held their second meeting of the semester on Jan. 28 at the University of Idaho.
Program prioritization:
• The Academic Program Prioritization taskforce is still considering how programs will
be evaluated. Senate Chair Terry Grieb said the task force is looking specifically in areas with a lack of student enrollment.
Curriculum changes:
• The Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program changes were confirmed and it will be moved from the College of Letters and Social Sciences to the College of Education.
o After being dormant for a few semesters, the program will be brought back under the College of Education, associate professor Jodie Nicotra said.
Students will no longer be able to receive a B.S. in Music: History and Literature Emphasis. And only a B.A. will be available with the department wanting to focus the degree more on language.
The Master of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling and Human Services and the Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling and Human Services degrees will no longer be offered at UI.
o The degrees fail to meet standards of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.
o No new students are being accepted into the programs and current students within the program are expected to finish their degrees Spring 2020.
• A new graduate certificate in Nuclear Decommissioning and Used Fuel Management was introduced.
o This change will allow for an academic cer- tificate for students with prior nuclear experi- ence or have completed NE 450 Principles of Nuclear Engineering.
