UPDATE: 7:22 p.m.

The potential explosive in Moscow is not a threat, according to Moscow Police Department Corporal Joshua Thueson.

“The ordinance has been taken care of and there is no current threat to public safety,” Thueson said.

Thueson said the item was found outside of a residence at Robinson Mobile Home Park, which he said was uninhabited at this time and has been for about a month.

The potential explosive was found outside on the property and was not inside the unit by a maintenance worker, Thueson said.

Moscow police and fire are investigating a device found on the 400 block of Almon Street which may be explosive, according to Roger Lanier, Captain of Operations division for the Moscow Police Department.

Moscow residents have been urged to stay clear of the area, he said.

Lanier said Moscow police were alerted to the potential explosive object at 2:18 p.m. after a maintenance employee of the residence found what looked to be an explosive.

Lanier said the Moscow police have alerted the Spokane bomb squad to the device, who are coming to look at it and dispose of it, if needed, though Lanier says there is no current threat to the public where it sits.

“They found an item that looked to them like a homemade explosive device, they weren’t sure so they called us,” Lanier said.

The Argonaut will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
