Idaho men’s golf will tee off at the Big Sky Championships April 26.
The Vandals have been working to prepare for the championships through playing on many different courses, teams out of their conference and hours of practice.
Head Coach David Nuhn said he purposefully schedules tournaments with high level competitors to further prepare the team.
“A lot of those teams will have a number next to their name denoting a top 50 team,” Nuhn said. “It is not like they have been gifted in some magical way that we have not, it just takes a couple puts here and a couple puts there.”
Idaho is not a ranked team in the United States but has high level players, Nuhn said.
“The lines are small between the players here at Idaho and the players at Stanford or USC,” Nuhn said.
Idaho’s lineup will consist of senior Enrique Marin, freshman Colt Sherrell, junior Sean Langham and sophomore Cole Chrisman.
The team is fairly young, with only one senior on the lineup, but the team is building itself a strong lineup again, Nuhn said.
“Three years ago we went out and had a fantastic final round and ended up winning,” Nuhn said. “Since then it has been a rebirth of the team and culture and we are finally ready to go out and win.”
The championships will be held at Boulder City, Nevada, on a course some of the players have not played in a collegiate tournament before, but others, like Marin, are veterans on.
“If the guys play the way that I know they can, I see no reason why we shouldn’t be in contention on Sunday for the Big Sky Champions,” Nuhn said.
