The Vandals will take on the Big Sky Championships next weekend from April 19 to 21 in Boulder City, Nevada to try to defend their title that they won last year.
Idaho Women’s Golf is the defending championships after taking home the title in 2018 with two top golfers making the all conference team.
In 2017, current Seniors Sophie Hausmann and Michelle Kim both played on the Women’s All-Conference team and will play for Idaho next week in attempt to secure the 2019 title.
Head coach Lisa Johnson said that despite the weather that Moscow is having currently, they are doing everything they can to prepare.
The team’s lineup for this year has played consistently and Johnson is still putting together the five person team to take on the conference.
“I feel really really good about the lineup, we have had a solid four players all year and are still trying to decide the fifth person will be but I believe that we are strong and ready to compete,” Johnson said.
The teams have been practicing on the Lewiston golf course due to Moscow’s weather and has been preparing all season.
“We have played some super challenging golf courses this year which is always beneficial because not only does it test our game, but it also prepares us for Boulder Creek,” Johnson said. “Boulder Creek is a fairly simple course where we are able to shoot pretty low so it always seems that much easier after playing a difficult course.
Johnson is optimistic about their chances, but also identifies big challengers within the Big Sky Conference.
“Sacramento State is a strong team, it has always come down to the wire between the two programs (Idaho and Sacramento),” Johnson said. “Northern Colorado did beat us once this year, and they played pretty well well this week as well but really anyone on this golf course can show up and shoot well.”
Idaho will attempt to defend their title and will continue preparing for the tournament throughout this weekend.
“Just the opportunity to play and try to take home another title is what we are looking for, and we are ready,” Johnson said.
