Idaho traveled internationally to Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico to play in the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational where they took fifth place as a team.
The Vandals started with a good first round and two players in the top-10 individually.
Freshman Vicky Tsai lead the team with a 3-under 69 securing her a tie for second place individually.
“Today was a breakthrough round for Vicky,” Lisa Johnson, head coach said in a press release.
Senior Sophie Hausmann was close behind shooting a 1-under 71. Hausmann ended the first round tied for sixth place individually.
Sophomore Valeria Patino had a low round shooting a 4-over 76 and Senior Michelle Kim and junior Laura Gerner tied with a 10-over 82.
Idaho sat comfortably in third place overall with a 10-over 298 after the first round.
Patino lead the pack during the second round shooting an even 72 skyrocketing her into a tie for twelth individually.
Hausmann and Tsai both shot 5-over 77 which were higher than round one but kept Tsai in a tie for seventh and Hausmann in a tie for twelth individually.
Kim improved by 6 strokes carding a 4-over 76 to round of the last scoring Vandal during the second round.
Idaho suffered in team scoring a bit during this second round ending tied for fourth place with Chattanooga both carding a 24-over 600 overall.
The last round saw improvements from round two.
Hausmann shot her low score of the tournament with a 2-under 70 leaving her tied for fifth place individually.
Tsai shaved 5 strokes off her second round ending with an even 72 which secured her a tie for fifth place with Hausmann.
Patino shot a 2-over 74 leaving her with a 6-over 222 overall which left her in 15th place individually.
Kim was the final scoring Vandal with a 7-over 79.
The Vandals finished in fifth place overall shooting a 31-over 895 (298-302-295) just one stroke back from fourth place Chatanooga and 5 strokes behind the second place tie between Fresno State and Kennesaw State.
“(Tsai), (Hausmann), and (Patino) were really solid this week,” said Johnson in a press release. “All three battled some adversity, whether it be putting, poor course management or inconsistent ball striking.”
Idaho is back at it again at Browns Summit, North Carolina on March 29 in their last tournament before the Big Sky Championships.
