Oscar predictions from the Vandal community

Which film do you think should win Best Picture at Sunday's Oscars and why?

“A Star is Born”

While I don’t believe “A Star is Born” will actually win, the film is still a masterpiece deserving of some recognition. Despite being the fourth iteration, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga combine to create a seemingly original flick filled with music, drama and slight hints of comedy in an otherwise dark tale.

— Olivia Heersink

“BlackKkKlansman”

Not only was it a pleasing movie visually, but it takes on a powerful topic with a new perspective. To talk about the KKK not from a stereotypical white view but from an African-American and Jewish American angle and how it feels to be part of an organization that hates who you are. It was different and relevant even in today’s age.

— Alex Brizee

“Roma”

My film professor keeps telling me this film is so beautiful and extraordinary. I still need to watch it on Netflix, but I trust his judgement.

— Lindsay

“BlacKkKlansman”

This movie was the best. Enough said.

— Kyle Pfannensteil

“Infinity War”

“Black Panther” wasn’t even the best Marvel movie released this year. “Infinity War,” meanwhile, is everything a comic movie should be. There’s drama, romance, humor and heartbreak. What else do you need?

— Brandon Hill

“Vice” or “Bohemian Rhapsody”

I’ve only seen five of the eight listed. Of those five, “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Vice” were both so good I had to them multiple times.

— Hailey Stewart

“Vice”

We needed years to truly understand what Dick Cheney did as a person of power in our country, and Adam McKay’s telling of the story brought all the pieces together for a piece that was cinematically superb at the time and its stock will only increase as time goes on.

— Jonah Baker

“The Favorite”

Emma Stone, as per usual, crushed her role in the film as did the entire cast. From the acting, costume and set design to the innovative way the story was told, “The Favorite” is the perfect fit for the award.

— Meredith Spelbring

“BlacKkKlansman”

It was an intense and powerful story that did not pull any punches from start to finish. “BlacKkKlansman” holds so much cultural relevance at this current moment in time that it is well deserving of the Oscar.

— Grayson Hughbanks

“Roma”

This is nothing like any film I would typically see, but it’s so captivating and powerful that anyone should give it a watch.

— Max Rothenberg

“BlackKklansman”

Such an important story and it is still relevant today.

— Mary Hollenbeck

“Bohemian Rhapsody”

I’ve seen it three times and loved it more every time.

— Jamie Sugai

“Roma”

Great story, great actors, great picture!

— Hugo Al
