The Vandals opened strong at the first spring tournament of the men’s golf team.
Idaho secured an eighth-place finish at The Farms Invitational Tuesday.
During round one, freshman Colt Sherrell led the team shooting an even 72. He was one of only 10 individuals in the tournament to do so for round one.
Head coach David Nuhn said that the team was still knocking the rust off from the spring, but he is optimistic they will pick it up.
“I thought we came back well and improved this afternoon. We got bogged down not having a good fourth score in the first round, but I expect we will see that settle down in our upcoming tournaments,” Nuhn said.
Trailing Sherrell was junior Sean Langham, who shot a four-over 76. Right behind him was senior Enrique Marin with a five-over 77.
Senior Klaus Ganter and sophomore Cole Chrisman sat tied at 84 to conclude the fourth.
On day two, Idaho finished out shooting 62-over in eighth place for the tournament.
Marin rallied his game and pulled out his ninth consecutive top-25 individual finish with a nine-over 225 (77-74-74).
Following closely behind was Sherrell with a 10-over 226 (72-79-75).
Langham shot his second-best score of his Vandal career finishing in the top-40 individually with a 14-over 230 (76-78-76).
Chrisman played better during his second two rounds making him the fourth scorer for Idaho with his 29-over (84-80-81).
Idaho was within ten strokes of Sacramento State who finished in sixth place.
The Vandals are back at it starting March 10th at the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Oregon.
