Traveling through time

Bill and Ted's adventures are for sure excellent

I watched numerous movies over my winter break, and little did I know, one would impact my life.

Amazon Prime became my spot to find movies to watch because Netflix is getting to be too boring.

One Saturday evening, I stumbled upon a strange looking film. I remember looking at the description and the movie poster, rolling my eyes and thinking how stupid it sounded.

My dad told me to watch it though. I sure am glad I listened to his professional movie advice.

“Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” created in 1989, is a classic film filled with humor, learning and excellentness.

Many of my friends and people I have talked to haven’t heard of this epic adventure. It should be more recognized because it is a cinematic masterpiece.

This film centers around two teenage friends who need to pass their history presentation or else they will be split up forever.

A man named Rufus — played by George Carlin — travels from the future in a phone booth to assist them, going back in time to meet historical figures and ace their presentation. If they fail, the future of humanity will fall into shambles.

The storyline is so far-fetched, it makes it way more entertaining and has the audience wish there was a button we, ourselves, could click to travel through time.

Besides being witty, this film is educational. When Bill and Ted travel into history they get to meet Socrates, Billy the Kid, princesses and even Abraham Lincoln.

I was never quite a history guru myself in school and after I watched this film I feel like a learned so much more than I did in a classroom.

It also has some witty humor to keep the audience invested in the storyline. The character creation — and really who Bill and Ted are — is perfect for the humor because it makes the film come full circle.

The two actors, Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, give 100 percent in their roles and convince the audience they are actually ditsy teenagers, who don’t know the difference between what is up and what is down.

The 80s humor from the characters work well with the graphic film quality, giving a sense of nostalgia for the time period.

I could go on and on about how great this film is. But the main reason I am recommending it to University of Idaho students is because this film is hilarious and also relatable.

I’m sure every student wishes they could travel back in time to fix a project or even a test. Students may feel dumb and think they can’t accomplish anything.

Bill and Ted prove this theory wrong.

Students can accomplish whatever they put their minds to — even if they don’t have a flying phone booth.

This film has surpassed my expectations and I watch it practically every week now on the regular. It has bumped up on my favorite film list, surpassing even my top-favorite scary movies.

This film surely is excellent. Pop a bag of popcorn, sit down, relax and travel back in time with Bill and Ted. It’ll be worth it.

Rock on dudes, and remember be excellent to each other.
