Senior Sophie Hausmann was formally invited to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur tournament Friday, which will take place April 3 through the 6.
“It’s a big tournament, but I think the name makes it very big as well since it is a women’s amateur tournament,” Hausmann said.
The tournament was created to shine a light on woman’s golf and raise interest while helping players fulfill their dreams to make it to the next level.
Hausmann received a call Wednesday and a formal invitation in the mail Friday.
Hausmann has worked hard over the past four years, even participating in the U.S. Open.
“She is very deserving of this. She has earned it with her world ranking putting her in a position for a chance to getting invited,” Johnson said.
Johnson also said that she is very excited to have a player from the University of Idaho to represent the program at such an esteemed event.
“Just thinking about the last three and a half years in the U.S,” Hausmann said. “I have proved a lot with coach, and the team, but if you have the right people around you, you can do a lot.”
