Eleven candidates are vying for seven open ASUI Senate seats for the upcoming semester.
Senators serve the students of the University of Idaho and must adhere to the ASUI Senate bylaws. Senators have the ability to write bills, work on individual projects and can choose how to allocate student fees. Voting for the Senate runs until Wednesday and can be accessed through a link emailed to all students.
Candidates running for Senate are Jonah Baker, Emilia Carillo, Ivan Castillo, Joe Garrett, Drew Gonzalez, Sierra Rothermich, Riley Ragain, Jesse Smith, Sean Malone, Faustine Moulton and Acey Norris.
The online voting includes two bills that require a student vote to be passed. This includes a bill to amend the ASUI constitution to include the oath of office, as well as a bill proposing the amendment of the constitution to create a judicial branch to be known as the supreme court.
The supreme court will have the ability to deem actions, proceedings, legislation and decisions made by ASUI to be legal or illegal through interpretation the constitution, rules and regulations and bylaws.
