The Vandals shot under par all three rounds at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown securing them a fifth-place finish overall.
Idaho started out the tournament strongly shooting two-under as a team during the first round. After round one, the team is tied for fourth place, just six strokes behind the tournament leader.
“It’s been an up and down fall for us, but in this tournament, we were solid from start to finish,” Idaho Head Coach Lisa Johnson said in a news release.
One of the two low scoring Vandals was junior Danika Palm during her first ever tournament on Idaho’s lineup. She shot a one-under 71 and is currently tied in 13th place individually with her teammate sophomore Valeria Patino.
The other two scoring golfers for Idaho hit an even 72 par. Seniors Sophie Hausmann and Michelle Kim are both tied for 26th place individually.
During the second round, Idaho shot under par again and finished in fifth place overall heading into the third round.
Hausmann was the lowest scoring Vandal, carding three birdies and an eagle which secured her a three-under 69. She is now sitting tied for 11th place individually.
Freshman Vicky Tsai improved from a seven-over 79 during the first to a two-under 70 in the second round.
Patino shot her second straight 71 for the tournament which secured her a tie for 16th place individually.
All the Vandals shot within five strokes of the low scoring Hausmann. Palm and Kim both shot two-over 74 during the second round. At the end of the second, the Vandals sit in fifth place overall, just 12 strokes back from the leader Oregon State.
During the third round, Idaho defended its fifth-place positioning and finished with a seven-over 857 (286-284-287).
Hausmann shot the lowest round of the week with a six-under 66 during the third. This low score helped her secure a top 10 finish in fifth place individually.
Kim was close to par hitting a one-over 73 for the third. Patino and Tsai both hit two-over 74 marking the last two scorers for the Vandals.
The Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown was the Vandal’s final tournament of the fall season and they begin their Spring season again Feb. 25 and 26 at The Gold Rush.
