Families throughout the community stood in a long line around 5 p.m. Saturday to enter the University of Idaho’s Theophilus Tower for Tower Trick-or-Treat.
“It’s one of the only Halloween events right before Halloween, and it’s on the weekend, you know because some of us have classes,” said Bronson Pace, a UI student.
Saturday’s event celebrated the 40th year of Tower Trick-or-Treat, bringing a large crowd.
Moscow resident Lauren Perla said the Tower bought double the candy this year, but ran out of treats toward the end of the event.
Word of Tower Trick-or-Treat spread over social media. A family in Pullman made the trip to take their 3-year-old daughter and 6-month-old son trick-or-treating.
“I saw it on Facebook and thought it looked fun. We saw it’s been going on for 40 years and thought it would be cool,” Kristina Cussatt said.
Regardless of the line, families didn’t mind waiting to attend this event. Marc Cussatt said the best part of waiting in line was seeing all the costumes.
“I like the horse-head guy and I think she (his daughter) liked the dinosaurs the best,” Cussatt said.
Willow Crites, who handed out candy on the 11th floor, said she loved the children and seeing their cute costumes while trick-or-treating.
“There was an elephant onesie that was heartbreakingly adorable,” Crites said.
Some children dressed to pair with themes in the Tower. Perla said it was fun seeing the children’s reactions to these themes.
“When the kids see the Mario floor and say, ‘It’s Mario, I’m dressed as Mario too,’ that’s the best part,” Perla said.
Everyone who attended dressed up in all sorts of costumes in the Halloween spirit. The most popular were princesses and Marvel characters.
Jessica and Bronson Pace brought their children for the first time to this event and said their children’s favorite theme was the superhero floor since they both dressed up as Batman.
The Tower floors had various different themes for the event, such as the 11th floor, which resembled a space station. Brendon Bradshaw, resident of the 11th floor, said they picked the theme since they were at the top.
They decorated the floor with black lights and planets scattered all over the walls.
The other themes in the tower were Harry Potter, tropical, throwback games, medieval, Scooby-Doo, Fortnite, superhero, Christmas, Star Wars and Jurassic Park.
Even though the themes added to the ambiance of the event, the children liked the candy the best.
Ava Crusset, 3, said lollipops are her favorite candy — she loves trick-or treating, a sentiment Danny Pace, 4, echoed.
“I like Trick-or-treating. I like the candy,” Pace said.
