Rams Masters Invitational
Vandal men’s golf is well underway after a 14thplace finish at the Ram Masters Invitational and a 10th place finish at the Husky Invitational.
Senior Enrique Marin led the Vandals at the first tournament of the season hosted by Colorado State. Marin shot 3-under 67 in his first round and a 3-over 73 for his second and third rounds. Marin tied the tournament in 15th place individually.
Right behind him, senior Klaus Ganter shot uniform 5-over 75 all three rounds.
Freshman Colt Sherrell shot a 78 for his collegiate debut and rebounded back carding a 72 during the second round and another 78 for his third and final round.
Junior Sean Langham started of the tournament hitting a 12-over 82 in the first round but brought it back with two 3-over 73s to finish the second and third rounds.
Sophomore Cole Chrisman finished the tournament with a 230 overall and hitting 74-79-77 for his individual rounds.
Overall, the Vandals shot 45-over to finish in 14th place out of 17 teams.
Husky Invitational
One week later, Idaho played the Husky Invitational, which played six golfers per team, scoring the top-five rather than the traditional five golfer format. After fog delays in the morning, the second round was suspended after 30 of the 36 scheduled holes were played.
After finishing the second round the next morning, Marin finished tied for fifth place individually with a 217overall, shooting 72-75-70 for his three rounds. During his final round, Marin shot four birdies and an eagle on the 525-yard, par five eleventh hole. His final round finishing under par solidified his top ten finish.
Sophomore Adam Veenstra shot a 12-over 225 overall and finished tied for 23rd place individually. Shooting a uniform 75 for all three rounds, Veenstra hit ten birdies total with four of those being in his first round. A few double and triple boogies held him from a lower score.
Junior Brock Anderson finished at 22-over, junior Ethan Atherstone at 25-over and freshman Jack Plaster at 31-over.
The Vandals improved every round finishing at 94-over and 10th place of 12 teams.
Idaho has little time to regroup because they are playing in the Jackrabbit Invitational Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 in Valentine, Nebraska.
