The University of Idaho has contracted with a Boise-based consulting firm to assess campus safety.

The firm, Vitruvian Planning, surveyed campus facilities with members of the UI community Tuesday evening. Vitruvian is due to present their initial findings at a workshop Wednesday morning.

The consultation work comes as part of efforts to assess and improve campus safety. This work follows the departure of former Athletics Director Rob Spear, who was terminated this summer months after it became public he did not properly report complaints of sexual misconduct in the early 2010s.

The work is commissioned through a task force founded near the end of last semester after the underreporting became public called the Student Safety and Wellness Task Force, chaired by UI Dean of Students Blaine Eckles. The group meets bi-weekly.

Vitruvian is due to present full findings within a few weeks.
