Authorities have determined that a landmine donated to the Goodwill in Moscow poses no danger, according to a press release from the city of Moscow.
According to Moscow Fire Chief Brian Nickerson, was a donated landmine from the WWII era. Nickerson said the Goodwill employee who reported the donation was unsure if the mine was still active.
Nickerson said Moscow police promptly evacuated the entire store, as well as everyone inside the adjacent businesses Deranleau’s Appliance Audio, Bellevue Healthcare and Planet 3. Police also cleared half of the La Quinta hotel on the west side of Goodwill.
The Spokane Bomb Squad investigated and determined it was a training device that posed no danger.
Goodwill employees declined to comment.
A Vandal Alert cautioned the University of Idaho community of approaching the area, assuring recipients police were in the process of clearing the area. A follow-up alert issued just after 9 p.m. notified it was all clear.
