Track and Field: Idaho impresses at OSU

Idaho continued to progress toward the Big Sky Conference Championships with strong performances at the OSU High Performance meet.
“The team looked great out there this weekend and they really supported each other too,” Idaho Director of Track and Field/Cross-Country Tim Cawley said in a news release.  “It is fun to watch the team come together.  Everyone’s been working hard, including the staff, and we are getting excited for conference coming up, especially being at home this year.”

Junior Andrea Condie headlined the meet for the Vandals with a blazing performance in the women’s 5,000 meters. Condie set a new personal record in the event with a time of 16:22.44. The time was good enough to move her into second in the conference and fourth in the Idaho record books in the event.

Sophomore Kara Story improved her all-time standings in the event as well, finishing with a time of 16:55.88 to grab 10th all-time.

Not to be outdone by her sister, sophomore Krista Story set a new personal best in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:30.42 and holds onto her 10th-place mark in the Idaho books for the event. Junior Erin Hagen finished not far behind with a time of 4:31.02. Hagen moves into ninth place in conference and 11th on the Idaho charts.

In the long sprints, freshman Jenner Higgins grabbed a new personal best in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:52.86. He now sits at 11th in the conference after this performance.

Sophomore Zachary Short continued to impress in his sophomore campaign with a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 17.28 meters.  He currently holds second place in the conference ranks.

Sophomore Rechelle Meade finished second in the long jump with a hop of 5.80 meters, moving her into fifth in the conference standings just a week out from the conference championships. Sophomore Jordyn Rauer claimed the third-place title in the event with a jump of 11.45 meters.

Sophomore Jonny Magee took second on the men’s side with a leap of 14.51 meters.
