Moms’ Weekend, the University of Idaho’s annual event celebrating Vandal families, kicked off with a host of events in the warm spring sun.
Moms of UI students were encouraged to participate in activities such as Green Thumb 101 and Cow Pie Bingo.
Moms arrived on Friday in waves, greeting their children as they got out of classes, ready for the weekend.
On Saturday, moms and their kids could learn how to transplant new plants and were given helpful tips on eradicating diseases commonly found in plants during spring.
The Plant and Soil Club put on the event, which doubled as a plant sale.
“It’s a lot of fun. We’ve established a lot of traditions. I’ve meet other friend moms, just fun,” said Stephani Harman, a mom from Boise, Idaho.
Harman went to the workshop with her daughter and said this was her third time participating in Moms’ Weekend.
“It’s the best time, I always look forward to it. We’re able to do a lot of fun things, a lot of fun traditions. It’s just a weekend also that I can show her what I do and all my friends. It’s such a good time, get spoiled a little bit,” said Olivia Harman, a UI junior.
Jodi Milton travelled from Joliet, Montana, to participate in the weekend’s events with her son.
Milton said the drive from Joliet to Moscow took nine hours. She said she felt honored when her son, Shane, asked her to come visit.
“I love your campus and I have been so impressed, even when Shane visited here,” Milton said. “I just am absolutely thrilled with this university.”
Debra Yaritz came from McCall, Idaho, to visit her daughter Kiera Schulz.
“It’s a nice experience to get together with a whole lot of moms and their kids and see where everyone is coming from and invite other kids who don’t have moms around and just intermingle and get to know the campus,” Yaritz said.
Another event moms and their families had the chance to attend Saturday was Cow Pie Bingo.
To play, attendees bought a square taped off on the ground and then waited to see if the cow would defecate in their square, said Courtney Carter, a member of the Dairy Club.
