The Idaho State Board of Education (SBOE) voted to increase University of Idaho tuition and fees by 5 percent for full-time resident students and raise tuition by 8 percent for full-time non-resident students.
Full-time in-state students will see their tuition increase by a total of $378 per year, bringing the total amount full-time students pay to around $7,866 per year, said Trina Mahoney, UI budget director.
The increase of student fees, which were debated earlier in the school year, were set at 3.9 percent, an increase of $41.92 per student per year.
Mahoney said the student activity fee will not change, but since the 6 percent UI asked for was not granted, this means the tuition increase will be 1.1 percent, or $336.08.
Campus Recreation received the highest increase from student fees, with $3.88 for Student Recreation Operations. The next highest increase is $3.50 for Campus Recreation to begin maintenance on the Student Recreation Center. Athletics recieved the third-highest increase, with full-time students paying another $2.70.
ASUI President McKenzie MacDonald said UI is not passing off a decrease in revenue because of a drop in enrollment onto the students, and supports the tuition and fees increase.
