Women’s Basketball: Shooter and Scholar

Idaho junior guard Mikayla Ferenz has been voted to the First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District on Thursday for the second consecutive year. Idaho is in District 7 with other universities from eight different states in the midwest. The award was voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Ferenz has put up remarkable numbers on the court this season, scoring at a 22.8 points per game clip that is good for sixth in the NCAA this season. She is also an Applied Actuary Science and Finance major with a 4.0 GPA.

She was also honored last year for her academic and athletic success on the All-District First Team.

Ferenz also leads her peers with four threes per game, good for second in the nation. She also put together Idaho’s first triple-double since 1984 against North Dakota and surpassed the 1,500 career-point mark. She is currently seventh all time on Idaho’s career scoring list.

This selection adds to an already crowded list of honors for Ferenz. The junior was Big Sky Tournament MVP in her freshman year, a two-time Big Sky All-Academic honoree, a Preseason First Team All-Conference selection, and a three-time Big Sky Player of the Week so far this season.

Ferenz will now advance to the Academic All-America Team ballot. The voting for first, second and third team All-America teams will be opened on February 28th and will close on March 6th.
