Idaho men vs Northern Colorado

The Vandals came out on top again as they continued their road trip to Northern Colorado with a score of 6-1.

Idaho (2-3, 2-0) won five of the six singles matches on the day. Senior Felipe Fonseca won at the No.4 position with scores of 6-4 and 7-5.

Junior Carlos Longhi Neto helped the Vandal lead with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win at the No. 2 position. At the No. 3 sophomore Guilherme Scarpelli came out victorious beating UNC’s Nick Wade after a vandal loss in the first set scoring 3-6, 6-3, 6-0

Junior Lucas Continho ended at No. 5 winning 6-3, 7-5, while sophomore Esteban Santibanez finished at No. 6 with a victory of 4-6, 6-4, 10-3.

The Vandals found equal success in the doubles matches. Idaho got the 1-0 advantage to open the match. Santibanez and Fonseca got their team on the board with a 6-1 win at the No. 3. Senior Mark Kovaces and Longhi are the recently ranked pair and scored a 6-3 win at No. 1 clinching the doubles point for the Vandals.

Idaho will come home for Weber State 9:30 a.m. Feb. 25.

Idaho women vs Northern Colorado

The Vandal woman pick up their second win in conference Sunday, defeating Northern Colorado 6-1 on its home court.

Idaho (2-2, 2-0) lost the doubles point and was forced to play a game of catch up. The three matches were all tight, however, the Bears were able to come and take the wins.

The singles side of the tournament was a different story.

Junior Marianna Petrei managed to snag Idaho’s first point of the day at No. 1 with a score of 6-1, 6-1.

Junior Naria Tavares clinched the No. 2 court for the Vandals going 6-3, 6-2.

Senior Lucia Badillos brought the vandals up to 3-1 after a win at the No. 3 with a score of 6-2, 6-1.

Freshman Laura Spataro picked up the No. 4 position beating her opponent 6-0, 6-1.

Freshman Marta Magalhaes and sophomore Shion Watabe closed out the match at the No. 5 and No. 6 to put the Vandals up to their finishing score of 6-1.

The women’s team hits the road to face No. 24 Oregon Feb. 25 in Eugene, Oregon.
