Are you looking for paintball without the bruises? Tag without having to touch anyone? If you are or are simply ready for a night of fun, then you are in luck. Vandal Health Education is partnering with the Campus Recreation and local community vendor, Palouse Play, to bring you Laser Tag held Friday, Feb. 9 as a Late Night at the Rec event.
Laser Tag will be held in the gyms of the Student Recreation Center and will start at 9 p.m. The event is absolutely free and open to all students. Join us for free food, fun, and a chance to win a gift card for your next trip to the VandalStore.
Some may recall the last time Vandal Health Education hosted Laser Tag in January two years ago and still more may recall our more recent Arrow Tag event that we hosted spring 2017. These events, as well as Grocery Bingo, Kick Ball in the Fall, and the occasional swing dancing event are a part of our continuing effort to provide enjoyable and substance-free late-night programming on campus as a substitute for higher risk alternatives. In addition, these events also serve to increase the community involvement and get people up and moving. The previous Laser Tag event was spectacularly well received by the campus community and so we are very happy to be able to offer this experience once more.
Students can sign up for Laser Tag in teams of four by filling out the entry forms available at the Campus Recreation Office or online on the University of Idaho website. These forms are due at the Campus Recreation Office by Thursday, February 6th at 6 pm and will allow captains to select a preferred session. The first session will run from 9 p.m. to 10:10 pm and the second session will be identical, but from 10:15 p.m. to 11:25 p.m.
Team captains will be notified of when their team plays on the morning of the event. Four teams are able to play at once and while walk-ins are welcome, only the first 32 teams to sign up are guaranteed a slot to play and a chance to win. So be sure to get your entry form turned in soon! First and second place teams for each session will receive prizes in the form of $15 or $10 gift cards to the VandalStore.
We are especially excited to share that the fun does not stop there. Following the second session, we will be opening both gyms up for free play until midnight. While only the first 32 teams are guaranteed to play, the half hour of free play allows for rematches and gives walk-ins and spectators a chance to join the fun. If you are planning on taking part, it is important to note that participants will be required to wear non-marking athletic shoes in order to partake.
