The tennis season got off with a rough start for the Vandals, who fell in Eugene to the Oregon Ducks, 7-0.
Leading the way for the Vandals was senior Mark Kovacs and junior Carlos Longhi Neto. The duo grabbed Idaho’s only win of the day in the doubles match. The Vandals top pair defeated Oregon’s Cormac Clissold and Thomas Laurent, the No. 17 pair in the country, early on, winning 6-3.
The next two doubles matches went to the Ducks.
The Vandals did not find any more luck on the singles courts. Oregon claimed all six points in the singles rounds.
Kovacs and sophomore Guilherme Scarpelli came within just a few points of forcing a third set in their individual matches but fell just short, each losing 6-4 in the second set.
Idaho will take a few weeks off before resuming competition in the region against Gonzaga Feb. 6 in Spokane, Washington.
