As University of Idaho Dads’ Weekend kicks into full swing, so do yearly events like beer tasting.
The 2017 Dads’ Weekend runs through this weekend and one of the highlighted events is beer tasting. The event will be hosted at the Best Western Plus University Inn and will begin at 5:30pm tonight.
Tickets for beer tasting are $25 each and purchasing tickets in advance is encouraged, according to the Student Alumni Relations Board website. Students under 21 will be admitted only with a parent.
The Beer Tasting event was planned by the UI Student Alumni Relations Board (SArb), along with the rest of the Dads’ Weekend events. According to SArb Advisor Mia Goodwin, the planning for each year’s Dads’ Weekend begins almost immediately after the previous year’s events conclude. Goodwin said after Dads’ Weekend concludes, the next focus for SArb is discussing what went well and potential changes for the next year’s Dads’ Weekend.
“SArb’s mission is to connect students and alumni through Vandal pride and tradition — and Moms’ and Dads’ Weekend is honestly one of the best times to accomplish this,” Goodwin said.
The Student Alumni Relations Board plans and executes Dads’ Weekend, Moms’ Weekend, Vandal Walk and many more events at UI throughout the year.
Goodwin noted that SArb is the largest student group recognized by the Associated Students of the University of Idaho. The Office of Alumni Relations provides support to SArb but all events are planned and executed by SArb itself, Goodwin said.
“I always enjoy being able to walk on campus, or in downtown Moscow, and see students showing their parents their favorite spot on campus, their favorite coffee shop downtown to do homework at, their weird fun fact about Idaho, the cool projects they’ve been working on. It is exciting to see students excited to share what they’ve been doing at Idaho,” Goodwin said.
UI Dads’ Weekend will also have many events including the Amazing Race, as well as the Vandal football game against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kibbie Dome. The Latah Credit Union Firework Extravaganza, which was originally planned for homecoming weekend, but was postponed due to high winds will start at 7 p.m. tonight.
