Kaela Straw named BSC Offensive Player of the Week

Junior outside hitter Kaela Straw was awarded Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week Monday following her performance against Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.

Straw had a total of 43 kills over the two weekend games. She averaged 4.78 kills per set and hit .307 percent between Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. Straw led the team with 21 kills against Northern Arizona.

Straw has been a top performer in conference play throughout the season. She currently sits at third in the BSC in kill average (3.67 kills/s). She has averaged 4.19 kills/s in conference play this season, the second best in Big Sky play.

Idaho is currently 5-1 in Big Sky play and are at the top of the north division. The team heads into a four-game homestand on a three-game winning streak.

Cade Coffey awarded Special Teams Player of the Week
Redshirt freshman kicker and punter Cade Coffey was named to the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the week on Monday following a 10-point performance on Saturday against Louisiana-Lafayette. On top of a 10-point game, Coffey scored a career-long 46-yard field goal. This is his second weekly award over the past three weeks. He is the 21st Idaho player to earn multiple conference awards in a single season.

Coffey went 3-for-3 on field goal attempts from the 26, 37 and 46-yard line. The 46-yard three-point play was the longest in conference this season and the second longest overall so far.

He averaged 52.3 yards on seven punts. This is the highest single-game punt average in conference and 14th best in the nation.

Petrei makes a run in the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships

Idaho junior tennis standout Marianna Petrei made it to the consolation semifinals of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships before the close of the tournament on Saturday.

Petrei took on 19th-ranked Lily Miyazaki of Oklahoma in the second semifinal match but was ultimately pushed out in a close match. Petrei played a tough game, winning the first match 7-6 before losing the second match 6-4 and ultimately the set 7-5.

Petrei and the rest of the Vandal team will face the ITA Regional Tournament beginning Oct. 11 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
