Throughout the school year, University of Idaho Greek life raises money through various philanthropies. This past weekend, Delta Delta Delta sorority (Tri-Delta) teetered their way to raise awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital beginning noon Friday.
On Saturday, Tri-Delta added the sale of concession foods, Dutch Bros hot chocolate and coffee to raise money for the event. The event concluded noon Sunday.
All proceeds raised throughout the event are donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — Tri-Delta adopted The St. Jude organization as their national philanthropic partner in 1999. Jamie Hank, Tri-Delta’s Philanthropy Chair said the members fundraised over $55 million to support St. Jude patients and their families since 1999.
“Our goals for teeter-totter are to raise awareness and collect donations,” Hank said. “We do teeter-totter because it is fun and we like informing and interacting with the community — our other philanthropy events make us more money, but this one is always a fun and exciting way to start the year and get everyone involved.”
This year, Tri-Delta chose to partner with Sigma Nu fraternity because they also fundraise for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Hank said. The event planning went smoothly with the help of Sigma Nu’s Philanthropy Chair Coby Contreras, Hank said.
“I don’t think we have had any difficulties really, it has just been a change integrating another house into the process,” Hank said. “Both houses are really excited for this event because it is a chance to raise awareness for our favorite organization, we get to teeter-totter, and our alumni always stop by to say hi.”
“The best part of the event is during the parade when all of the little kids want to hop on the teeter-totter,” Hank said. “Girls always want the parade shift so they can hang out with the cute little kids.”
