University of Idaho students, faculty and staff are preparing for one of the biggest events of the school year.
Homecoming Week starts this Sunday with a photo scavenger hunt at 5 p.m., which will begin in front of the Vandal Store. Opening ceremonies are at 6:30 p.m., in the International Ballroom of the Bruce Pitman Center.
Opening ceremonies include the annual Yell Like Hell event and announcements of homecoming royalty candidates.
Mia Goodwin, homecoming committee advisor and student alumni program coordinator, said homecoming is one of the best events on campus that connects students to alumni through Vandal pride and tradition.
“Homecoming celebrates Idaho,” Goodwin said. “It recognizes our past accomplishments, praises what we are currently working on as a university and helps us come together and look forward to what we will achieve in the future.”
She said the Photo Scavenger Hunt is an event which focuses on the bond between teams and alumni as they test their knowledge of campus and UI traditions. Yell Like Hell is where teams and alumni compete to see who can be the loudest group of Vandals. Goodwin said she thinks both events are a good start to the week because they encourage people to get creative.
Homecoming Week is not just about the students, faculty or staff, she said. UI invites the community and alumni to enjoy the festivities together.
“I encourage students to get involved with homecoming right at the beginning,” Goodwin said. “Events during homecoming are designed to connect Vandals from all generations and to create an electric atmosphere geared toward celebrating being a Vandal.”
