UIdaho Bound’s goal is to help the next generation of students become a part of the Vandal family.
Prospective students from far and wide converged on the University of Idaho campus for the first day of UIdaho Bound Friday.
Dean Kahler, the vice provost of strategic enrollment, made his way through the waves of students and parents visiting the campus, greeting as many as he could in the process.
“I am looking forward to meeting all of our new members of the Vandal family,” Kahler said.
Dawson Hill, a recently admitted student from Idaho Falls, said he is ready to begin his education in a field that he is passionate about — computers.
“I’m planning on majoring in computer science or computer engineering,” Hill said. “Computers have been my thing for the past five or six years now. After I graduate, I want to possibly work in software design, or something along those lines.”
Hill said he is unsure of whether or not he wants to live in the residence halls or try the Greek system. However, he said he is confident either option will be a pleasant experience.
Anthony Hess, who traveled to UI from Tacoma, Washington, said he believes the university is the most promising option to achieve his scientific dreams.
“I want to major in molecular biology,” Hess said. “I’ve been interested in this field for a couple years now. I am currently pursuing an associate’s degree at a community college in Washington. My goal, hopefully, is to use my degree in the fight against cancer, working for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.”
Hess said he hasn’t seen the whole campus yet, but he has liked what he has seen thus far. He said he is excited to begin the next part of his life at UI.
Hailey Ward made the short trip to Moscow from Lewiston. She said her desire to be a teacher has been present throughout most of her life.
“I want to study elementary education here. I’ve wanted to be an elementary teacher since I was in kindergarten,” Ward said. “When I was little, I remember I always wanted to be the teacher, and I also just love children.”
Ward said she is looking forward to joining a sorority due to the positive reviews she’s received from friends and family.
