The Idaho men’s tennis team improved its unbeaten conference record with a 7-0 sweep over North Dakota in Lewiston Saturday.
It marked the fourth straight win for Idaho as they started the day with a double-point for the sixth straight time, eventually cruising to an easy victory over North Dakota.
Junior Felipe Fonseca and freshman Guilherme Scarpelli began the day with a 6-0 in doubles play over North Dakota’s Alex Mailes and Matt Hokanson. At the No. 2 seed, Fonseca also walked away with a dominant win over Travis Lau, 6-0, 6-2 in singles play.
At the No. 1 position in singles for the Vandals, junior Mark Kovacs battled Dustin Britton, eventually picking up his fourth win of the season in a 6-3, 7-6 contest.
At the No. 1 position for doubles, Kovacs teamed with freshman Carlos Longhi Neto to put up a 6-3 victory over the Hawks’ Britton and Lau. Neto would also win in singles, as he defeated Mailes 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore Lucas Coutinho and freshman Esteban Santibanez defeated Ty Misialek and Simon Danyluk 7-5 on the No. 2 court. Coutinho and Santibanez also won in singles against the same opponents, recording 7-6 , 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0 victories respectively.
At the No. 6 slot, sophomore Peter Shin defeated Eshan Varma 6-1, 6-4, picked up his first win.
After a week’s rest, the Vandals head to Lewiston for a matchup against Radford University March. 8.
