University of Idaho students, faculty and staff are invited to discuss the proposal to declare the university a sanctuary campus.
The discussion will take place from 4:30 – 6 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Free Speech Zone
According to a press release from the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), the proposal for UI to declare itself a sanc- tuary campus would ensure the commitment to shared values including protect- ing the rights of UI individuals regardless of immigration status, race, sexual orien- tation, etc.
The idea for the discussion was sparked by the rising divisions spreading across the country that are producing negative effects for students, employees and other communities. Students involved with the OMA want to find a way for UI to ensure the safety of its community.
Individuals intending to speak at the event are asked to consider what a sanc- tuary campus would look like and ways to better communicate with others who differ in terms of culture, political beliefs, gender, race, disability, sexual orientation or other socioeconomic factors.
