Idaho 14 — Washington State 39
The Idaho football team I watched my freshman year wouldn’t have been able to put any points on the board against Washington. This year’s greatly improved team will make it difficult for the Cougars to pull a win Saturday. After a 42-0 loss last time the teams met, any points will be a huge improvement.

Idaho 21 — Washington State 42
Both teams are going to hit the field with a sense of urgency. The Cougars (0-2) can’t afford another loss in their quest for a major bowl game. Idaho exceeded expectations against Washington and will continue to grow, but the result will favor the Cougars.

The game between the Vandals and the Cougars will literally be up in the air. Washington State’s quarterback Luke Falk threw the ball 71 times against Boise State Sept. 10. Idaho had trouble defending against Washington the same day and will have trouble again Saturday in Pullman.

While both teams have struggled this season, the game will come down to offensive play. The Cougar offense will come out ahead led by quarterback Luke Falk, who has a 78 percent completion average and eight touchdowns. Idaho will have opportunities to score but it will not be enough to overpower Washington State.

Washington State has prevailed during the majority of the Battle of the Palouse matchups. The Vandals have shown potential, especially after winning their home opener against Montana State. Washington is expected champion, but I have faith the Vandals will make the community proud.

The Idaho defense will square off against the notorious air raid offense of Washington State, led by quarterback Luke Falk. The Vandals need to find the scoreboard and force several turnovers early to catch the Cougars by surprise. If the secondary can contain Cougar receiver Gabe Marks, then the Battle of the Palouse should remain competitive.
