Sophomore forward Skyler White was dismissed from the Vandal men’s basketball team Feb. 10, said Idaho head coach Don Verlin.
“He is not (with the team),” Verlin said during a press conference Tuesday morning, when asked by reporters if White was still in good standing with the program.
Verlin said that decision was not based on a violation of team rules, but rather a decision by the Vandal coaching staff.
Sports reporter Sean Kramer of The Spokesman Review said a source reported that White was engaged in a verbal disagreement with several Idaho coaches.
The sophomore appeared in nine games this year for Idaho, averaging 2.1 points per game with a total of 19 points on the season.
White scored a career-high 11 points against New Hope Christian College in a nonconference matchup Dec. 18.
The sophomore’s absence will not change the roster rotation for the Vandals, despite a recent ankle injury to junior forward Ty Egbert.
White attended Northfield Mount Herman School, where he earned a National Prep Championship in 2013. The forward was also named a McDonald’s All-American nominee at the conclusion of the 2012-2013 season.
The sophomore played for England’s U-18 National Team, winning the 2010 Haris Memorial Tournament, and was invited to join England’s U-20 team in 2013.
White initially chose to attend George Washington University as a freshman in college and played in 17 games for the Colonials. White was part of the George Washington team that finished the season with a 24-9 record and earned an at-large berth to the NCAA tournament as a No. 9 seed.
White concluded his freshman season with 14 points and five rebounds.
The forward transferred to the University of Idaho the following year and spent the 2014-2015 season as a redshirt for the Vandals.
White is still attending the University of Idaho and is currently majoring in organizational science.
