Social justice advocate and co-creator of the Black Lives Matter hashtag and movement Alicia Garza will give the Martin Luther King Jr. and Idaho Human Rights Day keynote speech at noon Jan. 15 in the Summit Room on the fourth floor of the Idaho Commons. The event is free and open to the public.
In her presentation, “Be the Dream: Inspiring Insights Into the Origins and Significance of “ª#”ŽBlackLivesMatter”¬,” she will discuss how social media served as a launchpad for a global movement.
Garza will also speak at the 23rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Community Breakfast 9-11:30 a.m. Jan. 16 in the Multi-Purpose Room of Moscow Middle School. Tickets are $8 general admission and $4 for students and children, and may be purchased at Paradise Ridge CDs and Tapes at 117 E. Third St., the UI Office of Multicultural Fairs and at the door.
