Idaho travels to South Alabama after a troubling loss last weekend, when the Vandals gave up a 23-point lead in an overtime loss to New Mexico State. While Idaho’s passing attack has flourished under sophomore quarterback Matt Linehan, the Jaguars have already forced nine interceptions this season. Fans should expect to see some key defensive plays from both sides, but home field advantage will eventually be key in the Jaguars’ victory Saturday.

The Vandals are facing South Alabama on the Jaguars’ home field for their homecoming game and that could be a factor. In the end, I think it will come down to the Idaho defense and one touchdown. However, if Idaho can recapture the energy it had against Troy and Louisiana-Monroe, the Vandals could very well start another winning streak.

After a frustrating loss last week against New Mexico State, Idaho’s defense really needs to step up if the team is going to have any chance of beating South Alabama. Consistency is crucial for quarterback Matt Linehan in order to help Idaho’s offense. As far as Idaho’s receivers, Callen Hightower and Trent “Buck” Cowan must continue to put up numbers and keep Idaho’s momentum going. This is Idaho’s do-or-die game in order to keep its bowl hopes alive.

The Vandals are now 3-5 overall this season and desperately need wins to have a chance for a postseason game. With four games remaining, Idaho needs three wins to be considered eligible for a bowl game. Idaho travels to Mobile, Alabama, to play South Alabama Saturday. It will be a great chance for the Vandals to get one of the necessary victories. Idaho senior running back Elijhaa Penny will need to have a great game to secure the win over South Alabama. Idaho sophomore quarterback Matt Linehan has grown a lot the season has progressed. I believe he will throw three touchdowns and zero interceptions Saturday.

This is will be a good matchup. Both teams are pretty even statistically, but with South Alabama coming off a bye week, the Vandals will have an advantage. Idaho looked over its mistakes from the New Mexico State game and will improve to notch a win on the road.

The Vandals will find an evenly-matched foe in South Alabama Saturday. A strong Idaho offensive line and senior running back Elijhaa Penny’s goal of 200 rushing yards has the potential to drive the Vandals to their fourth win of the season.
