Finding good reasons to use a slow cooker is hard, especially when some recipes call for a lot of preparation. Beef stew is not one of those recipes. After cutting up the ingredients and lightly cooking the meat, it can be left alone until after work or class.
Ingredients
- 1 pound beef stew meat
- 2 potatoes
- 3 large carrots
- 1 cup peas
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon sage
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- 1 teaspoon basil
- 1 teaspoon garlic
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- ½ teaspoon oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 2 bay leaves
Directions
- Lightly brown beef in a frying pan
- Chop potatoes and carrots, and any other vegetables wanted for the stew
- Combine all the meat and veggies in a slow cooker
- Add broth and all of the spices, including bay leaves
- Turn on low and cook for 10 hours
- After eight hours, check the taste and add any more seasoning to taste
- Let cook the rest of the time
- Remove bay leaves and serve warm, with rolls
