The most recent Clash of Clans commercial, which aired during the 2015 Super Bowl earlier this month, featured Liam Neeson being raided by BigBuffetBoy85, all while mimicking the voice of his character in “Taken.”
A 30-second ad in the 2015 Super Bowl cost about $4.5 million, which has some people wondering how Supercell, the Clash of Clans app creator, could afford to spend the $9 million on their one-minute ad for their most popular free app.
Although the app is free, there is an option in the game to purchase gems that players can use to speed up the process of upgrading troops, defenses and other key buildings. Due to a large portion of players not having the patience to wait for their upgrades to finish, Supercell brought in $1.8 billion from Clash of Clans last year.
Although there is the option to buy gems in the game, it is playable without spending the money. Players just have to be a little more patient. Once they advance far enough in the game, most upgrades take seven or more days to finish. But don’t let this scare you off, I have been playing this game for a year and a half and I’ve just recently begun waiting for those weeklong upgrades.
Clash of Clans is easy enough to understand and just as easy to get addicted to.
There are Gold Mines, Elixir Pumps and Dark Elixir Drills, which give players the resources needed to buy and upgrade defenses, buildings, walls and troops. Upgrading defenses will make it harder for other players to defeat a base, which allows players to keep their gold, elixir, dark elixir and trophies.
Upgrading buildings will allow players to hold more of one resource. Walls are a major part of a defense, because the higher level the walls are, the longer it takes for enemy troops to get through them.
The last thing anybody thinking about playing this game needs to know is to upgrade your troops. Upgraded troops are stronger and have a better chance of beating other players’ bases and taking their resources.
Beating a player’s base or successfully defending against an attack will give you trophies. Clash of Clans has a league system, which means the more trophies people get, the better the league they are placed in. This is meant to try and keep the really good players from attacking the beginners.
The best part of the game, however, is mentioned in its title: Clash of Clans. This game allows players to band together and create a clan of up to 50 players, which can consist of best friends or random strangers from around the world. The benefits of being in a clan include the ability for clan members to donate troops to either use in attacks or keep for defense and Clan Wars. Clan War is a clan-on-clan battle to the death to determine who the better clan is.
Clan Wars is the only thing that has made this game as popular as it is. Without being in a clan and participating in the Clan Wars, the game would get boring in a hurry. By allowing clans to attack each other, Supercell made Clash of Clans a game you do not want to put down.
I give Clash of Clans a five star rating, due to it being easy to play, its ability to connect with users, it keeps them interested and it is hard to stop playing. Supercell has done a great job updating and keeping all sections of the game from being overpowered. If you have not already downloaded the game, I would suggest giving it a try.
