New year means new music
There’s no denying 2014 was a huge year for music. It saw diverse releases, from artists like Taylor Swift, Run the Jewels, Every Time I Die, Anberlin and more. The dust has settled and “Best of 2014” album lists have been crafted, discussed and argued, and it’s time to shift the spotlight to the upcoming music of 2015.
Even though we’re only a few weeks in, this year’s music is already looking promising, with a number of new releases planned across the next several months.
One of the most exciting aspects about the planned releases in 2015 is the amount of albums coming from artists who rarely put out releases, or are releasing comeback albums.
One artist who fits in this group is Modest Mouse. The band is slated to release a new album, called “Strangers to Ourselves” Mar. 3, which will be their first since 2009. Coincidentally, Purity Ring and Of Montreal are slated to release albums the same day.
Another highly anticipated comeback is on its way from Death Cab for Cutie, who are set to release their first album in four years as a follow up to their 2011 album, “Codes and Keys.”
Other albums are coming out of virtually every genre. Hip-hop fans can look forward to new releases from Tyga, Snoop Dogg, Ghostface Killah, Lupe Fiasco and Riff Raff, just to name a few. There are also rumors of a new release from Kanye West, but nothing has been officially announced so far.
New offerings for pop fans are set to come from groups like Imagine Dragons, Madonna and Kelly Clarkson. Fans of metal, hardcore and other heavier genres can expect releases from groups like Testament, Pierce the Veil, Between the Buried and Me, August Burns Red and more. Beyond that, folk, indie, alternative, country and virtually every other genre have noteworthy albums slated to release this year.
While the future may look bright, it’s also worth mentioning those early January albums. The obvious release is Fall Out Boy’s latest album “American Beauty/American Psycho,” which has been headed up by the lead single “Centuries.” In addition, Marilyn Manson dropped his latest album “The Pale Emperor” and electronic post-hardcore group Enter Shikari dropped a new album as well.
Whether or not 2015 will beat 2014 in terms of quality music is yet to be seen, but there’s still a ton to look forward to, no matter what you listen to. Here’s to a new year full of new music.
