Charges of battery against University of Idaho assistant football coach Al Pupunu were dropped Monday.

Pupunu entered a plea agreement to complete at least 12 sessions of intensive counseling, according to Latah County court records.
Pupunu was charged with misdemeanor battery after allegedly open-palm striking a minor in his home June 1. According to court documents, Pupunu knocked the minor to the floor after a disagreement, leaving him nearly unconscious.
Charges were filed June 2 in Latah County 2nd District Court, to which Pupunu pled innocent. Bond was set at $300, and paid on the same day.
The case was dismissed Tuesday afternoon, following the plea agreement. Papuan will complete at least 12 intensive counseling sessions under Pullman psychologist Gregory Wilson, according to the motion of prosecution.
Pupunu is in his fifth season working with the Vandal football team as a tightends coach, after moving to Moscow in 2010. Prior to taking this position, Pupunu spent two seasons at Southern Utah University, nine seasons in the NFL and was a member of the San Diego Chargers” 1994 Super Bowl XXIX team.
