The Vandals ended their nine match losing streak to start the season on Friday as they outlasted Northern Colorado 3-2 on Guy Wicks Field.
With the game tied at 2-2 late in the first half, sophomore forward Kavita Battan broke the tie with her first goal of the season. The Vancouver, Wash native led all players with five shots, four of which on goal.
The Vandals will look to parlay this Big Sky win into a winning streak on Sunday as they host North Dakota on Sunday at Guy Wicks Field.
The Vandals outshot their opponent for the first time this season as they outshot the Bears 22-6.
Idaho’s sophomore goal keeper Torrell Stewart made four saves on the day. She was outsaved by UNC junior Kaitlin Ruff.
Freshmen forward Olivia Baggerly and sophomore defender Gabby Leong also scored for the Vandals, both within seconds of each other early in the second half.
After the two goals, UNC answered back with goals by junior forward Essence Ortiz-Lainer and sophomore forward Shanlie Anderson in the 55th and 64th minutes respectively.
The game was very physical on both ends. The two teams combined for 27 fouls, 18 of those called against the Vandals.
