The wind played a factor all game long. Numerous shots sides sailed wide and both teams had clean looks denied by the Palouse wind.
The game was very physical with numerous hard collisions on both ends of the field — luckily no players were seriously injured.
Eastern Washington’s Cassie Black and Ua Ruedy each scored on Idaho keeper Torell Stewart in the first half, giving EWU a quick 2-0 lead.
Idaho gave up an own goal off a cross from M’Kenna Hayes in the 50th minute, which all but ended the game. Paige Gallaway then iced it three minutes later.
In the 70th minute Idaho coach Derek Pittman pulled Stewart for Kimberly Gerken.
ESU outshot Idaho 14-9, 9-6 on goal. Gallaway led all players with four shots.
Eastern goalie Nathalie Schwery was phenomenal in net. She stuffed each of the Vandals’ six shots on the EWU goal.
The loss dropped Idaho to 0-3, Eastern improves to 2-1.
Idaho will get the chance to end this losing streak on Sunday when they head to Spokane to face Gonzaga, EWU faces Seattle U in their next game Sept. 5.
