Coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to Seattle U on Friday, the Vandals hosted Texas Christian in the home opener and lost 2-0.
The Horned Frogs spent a good portion of the first half on the Vandals side of the pitch, but only managed four shots on goal. In total TCU took 19 shots total, Idaho coach Derek Pittman said.
The Vandals yielded goals to Lauren Sajwich and Mackenzie Koch in the 15th and 69th minutes, respectively.
The game was very physical between the two sides, with lots of contact and very few clean looks at either goal. This physicality came to a head late in the first half when Idaho’s Kat Comesana, a transfer from De Anza College, took the worst of a mid-air collision and did not return. Pittman said she should be back soon.
The tenacity of the Vandal defense drew the ire of the TCU sideline all afternoon. When Amanda Pease drew a yellow card for her aggressive defending, TCU assistant coach Kelsey Davis did not take lightly to it. She was issued a red card and ejected from the game.
The Vandals had a few scoring opportunities that it could not convert. Kaysha Dary and Reagan Quigley both had clean looks on breakaways in the first half, but could not convert. Josilyn Daggs also took two shots on goal.
The Vandals will look to get its first win of the season and Pittman’s first career win as Vandal head coach, on Friday when they host Eastern Washington.
