The Derek Pittman era got off to a less than ideal start, as Idaho lost to Seattle U in overtime 2-1.
The Vandals quickly fell behind in the 10th minute of the first half, when Seattle U forward Stephanie Verdoia put the Redhawks on the board with a penalty kick, which made its way past Idaho goalkeeper Torell Stewart.
Tthe Vandals were able to strike back and tie the game in the 28th minute, as Alyssa Pease was able to get a shot past Seattle U’s keeper, Brianna Small.
After the Vandals tied the game at one apiece, the two teams battled back and fourth for close to sixty minutes before Seattle U midfielder Natasha Howe scored the game winner in the 95th minute — assist was credited to junior forward Julia Moravec.
In total the Vandals took five shots on goal compared to Seattle U’s six — three of which by Howe. Each teams goal keeper, Small and Stewart, were able to make four saves a piece.
The Vandals will be back in action on Sunday, as Texas Christian University will make its first trip to Moscow in school history. The two teams will face off at 1 p.m. The Redhawks will also be back in action on Sunday as they host the Kentucky Wildcats.
