Epps sentenced to one day in jail

Vandal wide receiver Dezmon Epps was sentenced to spend one day in jail with two years probation after pleading guilty to driving while under the influence, Pullman Radio reported today.

The incident occurred on Pullman’s College Hill back in April, Pullman Police said. Epps was pulled over for driving the wrong direction on a one-way street, police said, and was arrested when he failed a sobriety test. He was taken to Whitman County jail.

“Epp’s actions are unacceptable and he will be held accountable through internal disciplinary measures,” Idaho head coach Paul Petrino said in a statement sent to Pullman Radio.

Epps, who will be a senior this upcoming season, led the Vandals in receiving in 2013 with 980 yards and four touchdowns, on 79 receptions.

This is the second wide receiver to get in trouble with the law. Back on April 11, Joshua McCain was charged with a misdemeanor for dispensing alcohol to a minor, court documents said. McCain pleaded not guilty to the charge.

If punishment for the two players results in game(s) suspension, the offense would survive just fine. With the emergence of 6-foot-4 wide-out Deon Watson, running back/wide receiver Richard Montgomery and junior college transfers Jermaine Johnson and Kenny Torrence — wide receiver is arguably the deepest position group for the Vandals.
