Vandal Basketball: Idaho adds transfer from George Washington

After spending his freshman year at George Washington University, Skyler White is now an Idaho Vandal. The 6-foot-8 power forward, originally from Bellevue, Wash., will have three years to play three seasons at Idaho — but will sit out this upcoming season due to the NCAA transfer rule.

White played high school ball at Eastside Catholic High School in Bellevue, Wash., where he was a 2011 Seattle Times Honorable Mention All-Metro Conference selection, and Bronxville High School in Bronxville, N.Y. He also played for England’s U-18 national team and won the 2010 Harris Memorial Tournament.

After high school, White attended prep school in Gill, Mass., at Northfield Mount Hermon School, where he won the 2013 National Championship and was a McDonald’s All-American nominee.

After his time at Northfield, White committed to play college basketball at GWU as a preferred walk-on. He played in 17 games during his freshman campaign and averaged 0.8 points on 40 percent shooting (4-10) and 0.3 rebounds in 1.5 minutes per game.

As part of the Atlantic-10 conference, GWU went 24-9 last season and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament as a No. 9 seed.

The addition of White will give the Vandals, not only a much needed presence down low on defense, but the big-man can shoot, too. On offense his playing style resembles that of Stephen Madison’s — and he did alright throughout his Vandal career.

White is listed on govandals.com at 6-foot-6, but on the GWU website, he is listed at 6-foot-8 and 238 pounds. Whichever it might be, judging from the highlight video from his time at Northfield prep, White is thicker and bigger in stature than Madison, yet still possess the same skill set. In addition, White dribbles and runs the floor very well, even leading some fast breaks and making some impressive passes while doing so.

He is sure to be a welcome addition to an Idaho team that struggled to score and defend on a consistent basis last season.

Oh yeah, he can jump, too. Enjoy:
