Another defensive coach is moving on from Idaho.
Idaho has confirmed to us that cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens is leaving for Bowling Green to be closer to his wife.
It was first reported by Football Scoop.
Mickens spent one season as cornerbacks coach and was part of the initial staff hired by Idaho coach Paul Petrino.
Mickens is returning home to the state of Ohio where he grew up. He played his college football at the University of Cincinnati, about three hours from Bowling Green’s campus. He’d be joining another first year staff, with Dino Barbers replacing the departed Dave Clawson as head coach of the Falcons. His role on Bowling Green’s staff is unknown.
The report from Football Scoop stated that Idaho isn’t necessarily looking for another cornerbacks coach, but instead looking for the best fit on the defensive staff. Defensive coordinator Ronnie Lee also serves as secondary coach.
Mickens is the third assistant coach to leave the program since Petrino took over the program. Patrick Libey (defensive line) and Mike Anderson (linebackers) left over the summer of 2013 to pursue opportunities in business after participating in spring practice.
