Update (Jan. 31): We’ve confirmed that Robb Akey will indeed be joining the Minnesota Vikings organization.

(Original post from Jan. 30)
Idaho’s celebrated yet maligned former coach may have found a new football destination.
Dave Cotton of KHQ-TV in Spokane put out on social media that Robb Akey will be named defensive line coach of the Minnesota Vikings.
Nothing official has come out of Minnesota or from Akey and we have yet to confirm this news.
If true, Idaho will be off the hook for the $165,796.80 in base salary it owes him in 2014 if his salary at Minnesota exceeds the total of the base salary (which is very likely).
Akey did not work in football in 2013, instead dabbling in color commentary for Big Sky football broadcasts on ROOT Sports.
He would be joining new Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, who was a defensive assistant at Weber State in the late 80’s when Akey was a defensive lineman for the Wildcats.
We’ll update when more comes out.
Hearing rumblings that Robb Akey will be hired as DL coach for the Minnesota Vikings. Nothing official yet.
