Idaho has swapped one 2014 road trip to a Mountain West school for another.
The return game of Idaho’s home-and-home with Fresno State has been pushed back to 2018. Instead, the Vandals will travel to San Diego State on Nov. 8, 2014. The scheduling arrangement was first reported by Stefanie Loh of the U-T San Diego.
The change was made because San Diego State was in need of a final home game, Idaho athletic director Rob Spear said. Fresno State was willing to move its game with Idaho to help its conference partner (San Diego State).
San Diego State will pay Idaho a guarantee of $530,000, Spear told Vandal Nation.
Earlier this year Idaho had to move a 2014 game at Northern Illinois to 2018 as well to make room for the impending 8-game Sun Belt schedule.
The Vandals did a home-and-home with San Diego State in 2008 and 2009, losing 45-17 in San Diego in 2008 but winning at the Kibbie Dome 34-20 in 2009.
Idaho’s 2014 non-conference schedule is set:
Aug. 30 at Florida
Sep. 13 v. Western Michigan
Sep. 20 at Ohio
Nov. 8 at San Diego State
Home Sun Belt Conference dates TBD: Troy, New Mexico State, Arkansas State, South Alabama
Road Sun Belt Conference dates TBD: Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Texas State, Louisiana-Monroe
