Chad Chalich — Football
The Vandal football team participated in a mock gameFriday. Progressing through the game, the offense showed balance, power, and productivity. Chalich, a redshirt freshman from Coeur d’Alene, continued to show he is starter material. Running with the first team offense, Chalich accounted for 325 passing yards on 17-of-20 passing and five touchdowns. His hard work, combined with the rest of the offense earned praise from coach Paul Petrino. “We did some nice things today,” Petrino said. This is after the offense put up more than 700 yards for the second scrimmage in a row.
Richard Montgomery — Football
The running backs had a busy night when they participated in the mock game on Friday. Leading the charge for the backs was Richard Montgomery. Montgomery ran for 112 yards in the game. That was the game high for a running back group that tallied 315 yards on the ground. The second highest rushing total came from senior James Baker, who rushed for 85 yards. Through fall camp, Montgomery, a true freshman hailing from Jacksonville, Fla., has showed strong running ability and continues to prove to coaches that he deserves to get many touches when the season gets underway. Expect the backfield to do good things this season.
Maxx Forde and Ryan Edwards — Football
While the mock game on Friday was a showcase for the offense, two members of the Vandal defensive line stood out with their play. Forde, a junior from Woodinville, Wash., had eight total tackles in the game. Seven of those tackles were solo tackles. Forde’s teammate, interior lineman Ryan Edwards also had a great showing on the day. Edwards, a sophomore from Long Beach, Cal., had two sacks during the game. Both should play significant roles in the Vandals defensive game plan for their August 31, matchup against the North Texas.
Torell Stewart — Soccer
The Vandal soccer team lost at instate rival Idaho State, 2-0, Sunday, but freshman keeper Torell Stewart can’t be blamed. Stewart started at keeper in the second half after Idaho was already down by two goals. She kept Idaho State from the net making three saves on the night. Idaho’s next stop is Friday Aug. 30 at WSU.
