With rookie mini-camps getting underway in the NFL many former Vandals have earned the opportunity to participate. One, defensive end Benson Mayowa, turned that opportunity into a contract offer from the Seattle Seahawks this weekend.
Mayowa was one of only two invitees the Seahawks extended a contract offer to, the other being tight end Victor Marshall.
While no Vandals were drafted, this signing would make three Vandals joining teams, with Bobby Cowan in Oakland and Gary Walker in Baltimore.
Mayowa didn’t have eye-popping numbers at Idaho, with varying levels of playing time and some off-the-field issues affecting his senior season. But given the opportunity in Seattle he stood out to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, being mentioned by name following Sunday’s practice.
“He was pretty fast on the edge,” Carroll said.
Also in Seahawks rookie camp was receiver Justin Veltung, from nearby Puyallup, Wash.
The #Seahawks signed two tryout players following rookie minicamp: TEVictor Marshall, UBC, and DE Benson Mayowa, Idaho.
